Thursday Thoughts: Let's talk supplements!
My daily supplement routine and a few things I'm loving this week.
Hi friends. Happy Thursday!
I feel like my feet are finally back on the ground after an amazing 4th of July weekend (even though my Wednesday email is coming out on Thursday! š©). Two of my sisters were in from out of town, and there really is nothing better than having your sisters nearby. We laughed, ate way too much, took lots of long walks, and made the kind of memories that make summer so much fun.
Now itās back to realityā¦and back to my routine! That got me thinking about one of the questions I get pretty often: What supplements do you take?
Like most areas of my life, I try to keep things pretty simple. Iām definitely in the āless is moreā camp. Iām not a doctor or medical professionalājust someone whoās read a lot, talked with my healthcare providers, chatted with my girlfriends, experimented over the years, and landed on a routine that feels sustainable for me.
Hereās whatās currently in the rotation:
Every Morning
Vital Proteins in my coffee every morning. I think this helps with hair, nail, and skin health. I also think Vital Proteins helps with joint health, too, and Iām all for that.
Electrolytes in my water (usually Ballerina Farm Hydrate in Grapefruit Ginger or LMNT Zero Sugar in Citrus Salt). This has been a game-changer after my hot yoga and during these summer days where itās so hot.
Creatine for muscle health and mental clarity: I just add a scoop of this into my water with my electrolytes. Thereās just so much good research out right now about how good creatine is for women over 50āI canāt say no.
Ritual HyaCera: The vitamin company Ritual recently gifted this to me. Itās basically hyaluronic acidāa key ingredient for moisturizing in capsule form. I donāt think you can have too much of this at my age. TBD on whether or not I see a difference.
Every Night Before Bed
My HRT (estradiol + progesterone): I started this about two years ago under the direction of my doctor. It has changed my life. My moods are steady, no more hot flashes, and I can sleep again!
Vitamin D: Apparently, menopausal women are very deficient in Vitamin D and this is so important for bone and brain health. I was happy to add this to the mix!
A womenās 50+ multivitamin: This is my catch-all for the things Iām not getting from food. I just feel better knowing that Iām taking it.
And honestlyā¦thatās it.
Iāve tried plenty of other things over the years, including greens powders. While they always feel like something I should be taking, I canāt honestly say Iāve noticed enough of a difference to keep them in my daily routine. That doesnāt mean Iāll never try them againāit just means they havenāt made the routine cut yet.
Iād love to know whatās one supplement youāll never be without. Iām always interested in hearing whatās working for you.
Thatās all for today! Please let me know if this type of email is interesting to you.
Have a great one!
XO Ann Marie š
Here are a couple of fun things to click on this rainy day:
I tried this new Tower 28 GoGo Cooling Shimmer Stick this morning and it really is cooling as you apply itāand so pretty. A great eyeshadow for summer!
This is our favorite protein powder this summer. Annie makes her overnight oats with this every day and I make a big batch of protein balls each week with it. Itās plant-based and super clean but still tastes delicious.
I love that BaubleBar is making waterproof jewelry. How pretty is this layering necklace stack?
Is anyone else haunted by the cuteness of these bandana totes? And it comes in Hoosier red!
This Alex Mill jacket is just happy!
Iām obsessed with these inexpensive blushes from Versed. Theyāre so pretty and buildableālove!
